COSYDEP analyzes Senegal 2026 school exam results

The Coalition of Organizations in Synergy for the Defense of Public Education (COSYDEP) has released an analysis of the 2026 school year exam results in Senegal. While overall performance showed significant increases, the organization urged authorities to look beyond raw success rates to understand the underlying drivers of these statistics.

Key results reported include a 94.49% success rate for the CFEE, 83.05% for the BFEM, and 55.01% for the Baccalauréat. COSYDEP noted that the CFEE improvement is linked to the removal of the sixth-grade entrance exam, while gains in the BFEM and Baccalauréat were influenced by second-group exam sessions.

The report highlighted a critical imbalance in student orientation, noting that literary series account for 82.9% of Baccalauréat candidates, while scientific and technical tracks represent only 15.5%. COSYDEP emphasized the need for educational policies that better address national needs for scientific and technical skills.

To ensure sustainable progress, the organization recommended digitalizing procedures, improving formative assessments, and revising the orientation law. They also called for protecting the school system from socio-political instability to ensure learning continuity.
