Sabesp invests billions in São Paulo sanitation and Metro projects
Sabesp is implementing large-scale sanitation and infrastructure projects across the São Paulo metropolitan region. In Cotia, the company has presented a R$ 1 billion investment plan to expand water supply and sewage collection and treatment. This initiative, part of Phase 2 of the Projeto Tietê, includes 123 kilometers of linear works and 19 sewage lifting stations. The goal is to reach universalization targets of 100% water supply and 90% sewage treatment.
Additionally, the expansion of the Parque Novo Mundo Sewage Treatment Plant (ETE) is underway. This project, also under the Integra Tietê program, will increase treatment capacity from 2.5 m³/s to 6.2 m³/s, benefiting approximately 3 million people in São Paulo and Guarulhos. The expansion utilizes Nereda technology to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
The broader Integra Tietê program has already significantly reduced pollution in the Tietê River, preventing the monthly discharge of over 10 billion liters of untreated sewage. Since its launch in 2023, the program has connected 1.5 million households to sewage networks, benefiting 4.5 million people. The project is expected to receive approximately R$ 25 billion in investments through 2029.
Regarding transportation, public hearings are scheduled for December 2026 to discuss the environmental impacts of the future Metro Line 22-Brown, which aims to connect Cotia to the capital via Osasco and USP.
