Cotia honors local figures Mario Sakami and Maria do Carmo Diniz
Mario Sakami, a longtime promoter of cycling in Cotia, will be awarded the Title of Citizen of Cotia during a City Council session on July 11. The honor, approved by municipal decree, recognises his role in founding the Malucos do Pedal group in 2013 and his decades‑long effort to encourage cycling, health and community engagement in the city.
Councilor Alexandre Frota renamed his office after Maria do Carmo Diniz, the mother of journalist Léo Diniz, who died of cancer in August. The posthumous naming acknowledges her reputation for kindness, faith and family devotion, and serves as a personal tribute from the councilor to the Diniz family.
Both recognitions were proposed by local officials and reflect Cotia’s practice of publicly honoring residents who have contributed to the community’s social and cultural life.
