Cotonou hosts Swakopmund Process seminar on women, peace and security

Cotonou, Benin, is hosting the second edition of the Swakopmund Process seminar, focused on the ‘Women, Peace and Security’ agenda. The two-day event brings together ministers and experts to discuss institutionalizing and strengthening women's participation in peace processes, mediation, and conflict prevention across the African continent.

During the opening ceremony, Benin's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Corinne Amori Brunet, emphasized the necessity of moving toward action to ensure women's full involvement in conflict prevention and resolution. The seminar is held under Benin's presidency of the African Union Peace and Security Council.

Representing Gabon, Minister of Foreign Affairs Marie-Edith Tassyla-ye Doumbeneny presented national advancements in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1325. Gabon highlighted its legislative measures, including laws to eliminate violence against women, the creation of victim support centers, and quotas to increase the representation of women and youth in political elections.
