DGAC denies scheduled international flights from Cotopaxi Airport

The Dirección General de Aviación Civil (DGAC) has officially denied reports regarding the start of international flights from Cotopaxi International Airport scheduled for October 3, 2026. The clarification follows an announcement by local authorities, including the Mayor of Latacunga and the Prefect of Cotopaxi, who held a press conference suggesting that new routes to Panama and Punta Cana would begin on that date.

The DGAC stated that no formal requests have been received, no airlines have been authorized to operate these specific routes, and no official schedule has been approved. While the aeronautical authority confirmed it is holding exploratory meetings with industry actors to work toward the reactivation of the airport, these discussions do not constitute official authorization for any specific routes, frequencies, or dates.

Any future international operations must first meet all technical, administrative, and legal requirements established by Ecuadorian aviation regulations. The DGAC emphasized that official communications regarding approved operations will only be released through its formal channels once all requirements are met.
