Cotswold Lakes investigation launched after reports of illness

Cotswold District Council has launched an investigation following reports of illness among visitors to the Cotswold Lakes, specifically at the Cotswold Country Park & Beach near Cirencester.

Visitors have reported symptoms including severe sickness, diarrhoea, high temperatures, and in some cases, hallucinations and peeling skin. Some children have reportedly required hospital treatment. One parent noted that their children tested positive for campylobacter, a bacterium identified by the World Health Organization as a common cause of human gastroenteritis.

The reports surfaced via online community groups, with accounts of large numbers of people becoming unwell after visiting the site in late July and early August.
