Latin American security forces undergo leadership and structural reforms

Multiple Latin American nations are implementing significant changes to their law enforcement and security structures.

In Venezuela, CICPC Director Douglas Rico announced the suspension of static checkpoints (alcabalas) in favor of a more dynamic, strategic patrolling model to deter crime. Additionally, the GNB Detachment 113 concluded a term marked by a major 36-ton cocaine seizure.

Bolivia has undergone a major restructuring of its police high command. Minister of Government Marco Antonio Oviedo oversaw the appointment of new departmental commanders across all nine departments, including new leadership for Santa Cruz and Potosí.

In the Dominican Republic, the National Police are undergoing a modernization process. This includes leadership changes in Cotuí and reports of progress in gender inclusion and the deployment of body cameras.

In Colombia, security tensions remain high in Norte de Santander. Following drone attacks by suspected ELN members, police forces were evacuated from the Guamalito corregimiento, leaving the area without a permanent police presence after the local station was destroyed.
