Couchbase expands AI Data Plane to reduce agent deployment costs

Couchbase has announced an expansion of its AI Data Plane, introducing several managed services designed to lower the operational costs and complexity of deploying production-scale AI agents. The update includes Managed Agent Memory, a Managed MCP server on AWS, and native Amazon Bedrock integration with semantic caching.

According to the company, these features address the 'Frankenstack' problem, where fragmented data architectures across legacy databases, cloud services, and SaaS platforms create risks for agentic AI. The new capabilities aim to consolidate memory, vectors, operational data, and analytics into a single governed platform.

Performance benchmarks indicate that semantic caching through Bedrock integration can reduce Large Language Model (LLM) calls by 40% to 60%. Additionally, Agent Memory has been shown to reduce token usage by 33% to 45%, while vector-driven context retrieval can produce prompts that are 70% smaller than full-context approaches. These tools are compatible with frameworks such as LangGraph, CrewAI, and LlamaIndex.
