Council of Europe highlights cooperation with Turkey

Claus Neukirch, the Council of Europe Program Coordination Director, emphasized the strong institutional structure in Turkey during a reception in Ankara for the Council of Europe Visibility Week. Neukirch noted that Turkey is a founding member of the Council and that its Ankara office has been operational for over 20 years.

Key areas of cooperation include prison administration, curriculum development, and education. Neukirch highlighted the sustainability of these projects, stating that materials and methods developed through these initiatives can be utilized by Turkish institutions for years after a project concludes.

Looking ahead, the Council plans to launch new projects in November and throughout next year. Priority areas for the next two to three years will include migration, prison systems, education, and local-level initiatives. Additionally, a new regional program covering Turkey and the Western Balkans is scheduled to begin on January 1, involving joint financing models with the European Union.
