Svjetlana Milišić-Veličkovski elected ECHR judge for Bosnia and Herzegovina

Svjetlana Milišić-Veličkovski has been elected as the new judge for Bosnia and Herzegovina at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). During a secret ballot held by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), she secured 158 out of 165 votes, winning the position in the first round.

Milišić-Veličkovski, a judge at the Supreme Court of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina since 2018, was the preferred candidate following an interview process by the PACE committee. Her other competitors on the national list were Mahir Muharemović, who received six votes, and Predrag Raosavljević, who received one vote.

The new judge will serve a nine-year mandate, succeeding Faris Vehabović, who has held the position since December 2012. The appointment follows a national selection procedure conducted by the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina earlier this year.
