Council of Legal Education updates Nigerian law programme approvals

The Council of Legal Education has released an updated list of 122 universities approved to offer Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programmes in Nigeria. The Council issued a warning to prospective students, parents, and guardians to avoid enrolling in unaccredited institutions. Students admitted to unapproved law programmes will be ineligible for admission into the Nigerian Law School.

As part of recent regulatory adjustments, the Council has also increased admission quotas for several institutions. Notably, Ajayi Crowther University (ACU) in Oyo State has seen its law programme intake doubled from 50 to 100 students for the 2026/2027 academic session.

The Council's notice also identifies certain universities currently under a moratorium on admissions, such as Baze University and Lead City University, which are restricted from admitting new law students for specified periods.
