Council of Public Prosecutors begins selection for organized crime unit head
The Council of Public Prosecutors has initiated the process to elect a new head for the Basic Public Prosecution for the Prosecution of Organized Crime and Corruption. Commissions have been formed to prepare candidate lists and oversee the selection process.
Five candidates have applied for the position: Jove Cvetanovski, Trajçe Pelivanov, Lidija Raiçeviq, Iskra Haxhi-Vasileva, and Faton Azizi. The commissions will review these candidates to ensure they meet legal requirements, with results to be published online within three days.
To be eligible, applicants must have at least six years of uninterrupted experience as a public prosecutor and have received positive evaluations over the last three years. The election is scheduled for October 28. This procedure follows the upcoming expiration of the mandate of the current head, Islam Abazi, who has held the position since October 2022.
