Councilor Claudio Soto Solís Killed in Aysén Hotel Fire

Claudio Soto Solís, a 43‑year‑old councilor from Lago Verde, died in a fire that engulfed the Casona El Bosque hotel in Villa Amengual, Aysén Region, Chile. He was staying there with a municipal delegation for the Festival de la Lana, which was suspended after the tragedy.

Regional delegate Luz María Vicuña confirmed that the Public Prosecutor’s Office has ordered investigations by the Police Investigation Section (SIP) and the Carabineros forensic laboratory (Labocar). The Ministry of Public Prosecutions also requested the presence of the Medical‑Legal Service to perform autopsies. Mayor Claudia Valdés expressed condolences, describing the incident as a tragedy that “enluta a toda la comunidad.”
