Councilor Edson Carvalho Ferreira killed in Uberlândia, Brazil

Councilor Edson Carvalho Ferreira, known as Edinho Combate ao Câncer, was found dead inside his home in the Lagoinha neighborhood of Uberlândia, Minas Gerais, on Thursday afternoon. Preliminary police reports indicate he was attacked at the front of the house, with the motive still under investigation.

Two teenagers, aged 16 and 17, were arrested the following day after being located at a relative’s house. They confessed to the killing, saying they planned the crime to steal the councilor’s money and knew his bank card details. Police say the victims stole the councilor’s cellphone and bank cards and spent the cash within 24 hours. The homicide is being treated as a robbery‑related killing, with the suspects facing charges equivalent to latrocínio. Authorities continue to search for additional accomplices and to determine the full circumstances of the murder.
