Dominican Republic blocks 256 illegal streaming sites for FIFA 2026 World Cup
The Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Public Prosecutor obtained a court order to dynamically block 256 internet domains and suspend one additional site that were illegally retransmitting FIFA 2026 World Cup matches. The action was part of Operation Tarjeta Roja, an international effort coordinated with authorities from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, the United States, Paraguay, Peru and the Dominican Republic.
Domestically, the Intellectual Property Unit, the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office against High‑Tech Crimes, the Criminal Investigation Unit and the U.S. Homeland Security Investigations office identified more than 300 suspect domains, including platforms such as Tarjeta Roja, Roja Directa, Fútbol Libre and Pirlo TV. Dynamic blocking allows authorities to quickly disable new addresses that replace those already taken down, protecting rights‑holders and preventing users from exposure to malware or data‑theft.
The measures were carried out under Dominican law on copyright, intellectual property and high‑technology crimes, and a warning page now appears for users attempting to access the blocked sites.
