Argentina sees spate of serious traffic accidents

A series of serious road accidents have been reported across Argentina. In Comodoro Rivadavia, a provincial police officer on a day off drove a Volkswagen Bora while registering a blood‑alcohol level of 3.7 g/L, causing a crash that overturned the vehicle but injured no one seriously. In San Carlos de Bariloche, a driver who struck a pedestrian, Emilio Juárez Villarruel, fled the scene; the victim died hours later and the suspect was later detained. In Metán, a municipal councilwoman, Romina Barboza, has been accused of failing to cover medical and repair costs after her underage son, driving a Chevrolet Onix, collided with a motorcycle and left the scene. A collision in San Rafael left a man with a severe whiplash injury after a Ford Focus struck a Chevrolet Meriva. In Cipolletti, a brick‑laden truck hit a Suzuki driver, dragged the car several metres and fled without stopping, leaving the victim to file a delayed police report. Buenos Aires recorded multiple incidents on the same morning, including a severe crash near San Lorenzo stadium that injured two motorcyclists, several collisions on the General Paz and Dellepiane avenues, and an atrop‑by involving a truck. Santa Fe’s Circunvalación Oeste was the site of four separate assaults on motorcyclists within 24 hours. A study released for Bariloche highlighted that in 2025 all six traffic‑related deaths in the city involved vulnerable road users—pedestrians, cyclists or motorcyclists—underscoring the high risk for these groups.
