Count Basie Center for the Arts celebrates 100 years
The Count Basie Center for the Arts in Red Bank, New Jersey, is celebrating its centennial anniversary. Originally opened in 1926 as the Carlton Theatre to host vaudeville and movies, the venue was saved from demolition in the 1970s. It later became the Monmouth Arts Center before being renamed in 1984 to honor the legendary jazz musician and Red Bank native, Count Basie.
To mark the milestone, the center has announced a series of upcoming performances, including a centennial celebration finale, various holiday shows, and tributes to musical acts such as Rush and Steely Dan. The schedule also features comedy performances by John Cleese and Bianca Del Rio.
