Countryside Alliance launches campaign to reset rural UK relations

The Countryside Alliance has launched the ‘Campaign for the Countryside’ in Westminster, calling on the UK government to reset its relationship with rural communities. The initiative seeks to unite various rural sectors, including farming, rural businesses, angling, and various racing and hunting interests.

During a landmark event, senior politicians including Lord Cameron of Chipping Norton and Lord Blunkett advocated for a renewed focus on rural issues. Lord Cameron emphasized the link between food security and national security, criticizing policies such as the ‘family farm tax’ that he suggests put agricultural stability at risk.

Lord Herbert of South Downs, chairman of the Countryside Alliance, warned that politicians are becoming disconnected from rural priorities by focusing on controversial issues like trail hunting restrictions. The campaign encourages supporters to use an e-lobby platform to communicate directly with the Prime Minister and local MPs regarding the challenges facing the countryside.
