Coupang and E-mart launch seasonal blue crab discounts

Major South Korean retailers Coupang and E-mart have launched large-scale discount promotions for seasonal blue crabs following the end of the fishing ban.

Coupang announced it will offer various blue crab products through September 31, with some items priced as low as 688 won per 100g. The company has expanded its sourcing areas to seven locations across the West Sea, including Incheon and Chungnam, and expects its crab procurement volume to reach approximately 150 tons this year, a 50% increase from the previous year. Coupang utilizes Micro Fulfillment Centers to ensure rapid delivery via its Rocket Fresh service.

E-mart is also offering domestic autumn blue crabs at discounted rates, starting at 689 won per 100g for a three-day period. To secure supply, E-mart has signed exclusive contracts with over 50 vessels in major West Sea regions such as Taean. The retailer plans to supply approximately 20 tons of crab during the initial promotion period, utilizing a cold chain system to maintain freshness from the port to the store.
