Coupang expands AI roles for disabled workers in South Korea

Coupang launched a dedicated AI data‑quality verification job for employees with disabilities in June 2022, starting with one staff member. By the end of 2023 the team grew to ten people who build and review answer datasets used to evaluate and improve the performance of the company’s AI‑driven counterfeit detection models.

The initiative, led by Coupang’s Inclusion Management Team in partnership with the Korea Employment Agency for Persons with Disabilities, now employs workers across 14 of the 15 legally recognized disability types and ages ranging from the teens to the seventies. Coupang’s overall disability employment rate rose to 3.64%, surpassing Korea’s 3.1% statutory minimum, and the company says it will continue expanding customized AI‑related jobs for disabled staff.
