Coupang hits record 7,000 tons in regional fruit procurement

Coupang has purchased over 7,000 tons of fruit from regional farms in South Korea between January and August this year, marking a record high for the same period. This represents a 10% increase compared to the same period last year.

The procurement primarily focuses on areas designated by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety as population-decline regions, including parts of Jeonnam, Gyeongbuk, and Daegu. The company sources approximately 30 varieties of fruit, such as apples, melons, plums, watermelons, strawberries, and figs, to meet rising demand through its expanded dawn delivery network in provinces like Honam, Gyeongsang, and Gangwon.

This increased procurement has significantly boosted local farm incomes. For instance, the Gunwi Agricultural Cooperative Plum Joint Shipment Association reported 1.6 billion won in sales through Coupang this year, doubling its revenue from the previous year. Coupang stated it intends to continue expanding its direct purchases and cooperative efforts to support farmers in regions facing demographic challenges.
