Coupang Incheon Logistics Center Fire Prompts Cleanup Aid and Safety Probe

A fire broke out at Coupang’s logistics center in Incheon’s Seogwipo district, forcing more than 200 residents into temporary shelters. The blaze, which took roughly 109 hours to extinguish, left smoke and dust contamination in nearby homes, preventing many occupants from returning.

Coupang’s Fulfillment Service began a professional on‑site cleaning program on July 28, coordinating with a cleaning company to decontaminate affected apartments and providing a medical‑support center and a damage‑report hotline. The company also opened a dedicated “Coupang Damage Support Center” to handle claims for medical expenses, cleaning costs and other losses.

Separate investigations revealed that the building had received three fire‑safety deficiency judgments in the past four years, including faulty emergency‑lighting and missing safety signage. Authorities are examining the cause, with battery‑related electrical faults among the possibilities, and the Incheon district government is considering a claim for reimbursement of response and recovery costs.
