Coupang Incheon logistics center fire controlled after 61 hours

A massive fire broke out on 18 July 2026 at 6:54 a.m. at Coupang’s No. 32 logistics centre in Incheon’s Seohae‑gu district. The eight‑story warehouse, covering about 299,000 m², stored large quantities of flammable household goods and hundreds of lithium‑battery‑powered robots on the fifth floor.

Firefighters from across eight provinces were mobilised, deploying more than 800 personnel and 230 fire‑fighting vehicles. The blaze was declared under initial control on 20 July at 8 p.m., roughly 61 hours after ignition, though smouldering hotspots remained. A national fire‑mobilisation order remained in effect while crews worked to extinguish residual flames.

Authorities evacuated the area within a 116‑metre radius of the warehouse ramp, sheltering about 170‑200 residents. No casualties were reported; 121 workers evacuated safely. The fire prompted concerns of structural collapse, prompting a collapse‑warning system and ongoing safety inspections.

Coupang shifted orders to nearby centres in Goyang, Bucheon and other sites, causing some delivery delays in Incheon, western Seoul and parts of Gyeonggi‑province. The company pledged cooperation with investigators, who will also examine 25 fire‑safety issues identified in a routine inspection earlier in the year.
