Coupang monthly payments exceed 5 trillion won in July

Coupang's estimated credit and debit card payment volume exceeded 5 trillion won in July, marking its highest monthly total following a previous personal information leak incident. According to data from Mobile Index, July payments reached 5.0942 trillion won, a 5.4% increase from the previous month.

In August, estimated payments remained strong at approximately 4.9301 trillion won, representing a 12.6% increase compared to August of the previous year. The company's monthly active users (MAU) also showed growth, rising to 35.95 million in August from 35.44 million in July, surpassing levels seen prior to the data leak.

Analysts attribute this resilience to Coupang's delivery infrastructure, such as Rocket Delivery and early morning delivery, alongside the benefits provided by its Wow membership. In contrast, domestic competitors saw declines; Gmarket's estimated August payments fell 25.9% year-on-year, while 11st saw a 3.1% decrease.
