Coupang raises information‑security spending to record 1.35 trillion won
Coupang announced that its information‑security investment for the fiscal year reached 1,349.37 billion won, a 51.6 % increase from the previous year’s 889.80 billion won. The rise was driven by higher costs for system maintenance, external services, personnel and training.
The e‑commerce firm also expanded its dedicated security staff to 370.1 employees, up roughly 75 % from 211.6 the year before. By contrast, its overall IT spending grew to 2.5725 trillion won, a 34.2 % jump, raising the share of security spending within IT budgets to 5.2 %.
Coupang has topped the Korean retail sector in security investment for four consecutive years, outpacing rivals such as Naver (660 billion won, 154 staff) and major retailers like E‑Mart and Hyundai Department Store. The company said the expanded budget and workforce are aimed at strengthening data protection and maintaining consumer trust as its business scales.
