Court dismisses ADC candidate challenge in Rivers State

A Federal High Court in Port Harcourt has dismissed a lawsuit filed by Legborsi Nwiabu, an African Democratic Congress (ADC) aspirant. Nwiabu had challenged the selection of Bright Nulee as the party’s candidate for the Khana State Constituency I seat in the Rivers State House of Assembly elections.

The dismissal followed an oral application for withdrawal by Nwiabu’s counsel, Felix Beragbara, who stated that the plaintiff decided to discontinue the case following interventions by the ADC Peace and Reconciliation Committee and other senior party officials. The move was intended to prioritize the collective interest of the party over personal ambition to ensure a unified front for the upcoming elections.

While the suit was withdrawn, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) requested legal costs. Justice Muhammed Turaki granted the application to dismiss the suit and awarded ₦50,000 in costs to INEC.
