Court of Arbitration for Sport fake document claims Senegal won CAN 2025 dispute
A fraudulent document circulating on social media falsely claims that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has ruled in favor of Senegal in its legal dispute with Morocco regarding the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN).
The fake communiqué uses the CAS logo and a signature to mimic an official decision, asserting that Senegal meets all regulatory and ethical conditions to be recognized as the official champion. However, the document contains significant errors, such as referencing a “CAN 2026” instead of the 2025 edition and misattributing functions to CAS Director General Matthieu Reeb.
The actual legal dispute stems from the 2025 final. While Senegal won on the pitch, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) appeals jury previously declared Senegal forfeited, awarding a 3-0 victory to Morocco. The Senegalese Football Federation has challenged this decision before the CAS. An arbitration hearing was held in Lausanne on October 8, but no official sentence has been published by the CAS regarding the matter.
