Sassuolo: Court of Auditors flags accounting issues in municipal reports
The Court of Auditors of Emilia-Romagna has issued a formal notice regarding the 2024 financial statements for the municipality of Sassuolo. The deliberation, number 141/2026/VSG, highlights difficulties in verifying economic relationships with several municipal-linked companies and organizations.
Specific issues identified include incomplete documentation, missing certifications from auditors, and discrepancies between the balances declared by the municipality and those reported by entities such as Farmacie di Sassuolo, Hera, AESS, Lepida, AMO, and the Fondazione Scuola Interregionale di Polizia Locale. The Court noted that some responses to questionnaires were inconsistent with findings.
Political reactions to the report have been divided. Members of the opposition, including Fratelli d’Italia, have called for greater transparency, suggesting the findings indicate unclear accounts. Conversely, members of the majority, such as Giuseppe Bove of the Democratic Party, have characterized the notice as a routine formal reminder regarding documentation and administrative regularizations, noting that the Court did not report any actual financial losses or missing funds.
