Court rulings address state compensation error and inheritance disputes
In Taiwan, the Taipei District Court has ordered the Shilin District Court to pay state compensation to Earth Human Brand Marketing Co., Ltd. following a procedural error. The error occurred during a payment order dispute involving the Hong Kong-based brand 2% WIP Group. Due to the Shilin District Court failing to correctly serve a payment order, Earth Human missed the deadline to file an objection, leading to a five-month freeze on its bank accounts and the necessity of borrowing 5.61 million TWD. The court ruled that the Shilin District Court must compensate the company for interest on the borrowed funds.
In China, the Changping District People's Court has resolved a complex inheritance dispute involving a woman who died without a spouse, children, or siblings. Nine relatives, including aunts, uncles, and cousins, contested the estate, which included a house, bank deposits, and life insurance policies. The court ruled that the life insurance and bank deposits would be divided among the nine relatives based on their level of care provided to the deceased. However, the most valuable asset, the real estate, was awarded to the state to be managed by the Changping District Civil Affairs Bureau.
