Court suspends Prince Dom Pedro Tiago's return to Petrópolis palace

The Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice has suspended a previous decision that allowed Prince Dom Pedro Tiago de Orléans e Bragança to return to the Palácio do Grão-Pará in Petrópolis. The court's ruling effectively reverses an injunction that had granted the prince possession of the property.

The palace is owned by the Companhia Imobiliária de Petrópolis, a company whose partners include the prince's father, Pedro Carlos de Orléans e Bragança, and his uncles, Afonso and Francisco de Orléans e Bragança. Following the court's decision, Petrópolis authorities have been ordered to issue a new warrant for repossession in favor of the real estate company.

The legal conflict intensified following an incident in June. During an attempt to return to the palace after exercising, the prince was reportedly blocked by security personnel acting on behalf of the company. The situation escalated to the point where the Military Police were called to the scene. According to police reports, the prince resisted orders to leave the premises, leading officers to use “instruments of lesser offensive potential” to contain him. The dispute has resulted in the locks of the palace being changed.
