Court TV sued over victim name leak in Irish firefighter rape case

A 29‑year‑old solicitor who was raped by Dublin firefighter Terence Crosbie in 2024 has filed a civil lawsuit against U.S. network Court TV. The complaint alleges that Court TV breached a court order by displaying the victim’s full name in a caption during a live broadcast of her testimony at the Massachusetts trial, and repeated the breach on a second occasion. The lawsuit seeks $2.8 million in compensatory and punitive damages, citing the resulting online abuse and lasting reputational harm.

Crosbie, 39, faced two trials after the first ended in a hung jury; he was convicted at the second trial and sentenced to 7–9 years in prison in October 2025. Judge Joshua Wall had ordered that the victim’s identity and image remain confidential. The plaintiff, filing under the pseudonym Jane Doe, claims Court TV’s actions constituted a “flagrant” violation of the permission granted and caused her identity to spread widely across social‑media platforms.
