Courteney Cox debuts ‘Evil Genius’ at Toronto film festival

Courteney Cox’s true crime thriller, ‘Evil Genius’, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. This project marks Cox’s first feature film as a director in 12 years.

Based on the 2018 Netflix documentary series, the film provides a fictionalized account of the 2003 ‘pizza bomber’ case in Erie, Pennsylvania. The plot follows the robbery involving Brian Wells, a pizza delivery man who attempted a bank heist while wearing a homemade bomb around his neck. The device detonated following his arrest, resulting in his death.

The film stars Patricia Arquette as Marjorie Diehl-Armstrong, the woman convicted of masterminding the robbery to fund a hit on her estranged father. David Harbour portrays Brian Wells, while Bill Rothstein, played by Harbour, is depicted as her former fiancé and accomplice. The production also features appearances by Christine Taylor and David Arquette.
