Courts convict individuals for animal cruelty in Chile and Peru

Courts in Chile and Peru have issued convictions in separate cases involving animal cruelty and neglect.

In Chile, the Copiapó Oral Criminal Court convicted D. A. J. J. for animal abuse following the death of five puppies in the Amolanas sector of Tierra Amarilla. The court established that the defendant drowned the animals in a bucket of water on January 24, 2026. The prosecution presented photographic and audiovisual evidence to support the charges.

In Peru, José Trinidad Sequeiros Farfán and Ciprián Cutiré Ccahuana were sentenced for abandoning and mistreating domestic animals in the San Jerónimo district. The case involved four dogs found tied to trees, dehydrated and without food. Two dogs, Balto and Acuarela, died due to the neglect, while two others were rescued. The defendants received a sentence of 2 years, 6 months, and 22 days, subject to a probationary period during which they are prohibited from owning animals and must make donations to animal shelters.
