Courts in Bangladesh sentence two men to life imprisonment for rape
Two separate court rulings in Bangladesh have resulted in life imprisonment for men convicted of raping minors.
In Meherpur, a judge at the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal sentenced 35-year-old Mosharraf Hossain to rigorous life imprisonment. Hossain was also ordered to pay a fine of 200,000 BDT, with an additional year of imprisonment if the fine is not paid. The court found him guilty of raping a ninth-grade student at her home in April 2025.
In Jamalpur, the Women and Children Repression Prevention Court-1 sentenced 33-year-old Md. Mucha Mia to life imprisonment for the rape of a 15-year-old girl. Mia, who served as an imam at a local mosque in Dewanganj, was convicted of multiple assaults occurring in late 2020. The court imposed a fine of 500,000 BDT, which is to be paid to the victim's family.
