Courts in Zambia and Kenya issue rulings in child defilement cases
In separate legal proceedings in Zambia and Kenya, courts have addressed cases of child defilement.
A Kabwe Magistrates’ Court in Zambia has ordered 24-year-old Levy Tebulo to present his defense following a charge of defilement. The prosecution presented medical testimony from a gynecologist indicating an injury to the complainant, a girl under the age of 16. Tebulo has opted to provide sworn evidence and remains in custody. The case is adjourned until October 1, 2026.
In Kakamega, Kenya, a 22-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the defilement and assault of a six-year-old girl. Although the offenses were committed when the accused was 17, the court ruled that because he had reached adulthood by the time of sentencing, he was liable to be sentenced as an adult under the Sexual Offences Act. The life sentence runs concurrently with a four-year term for assault causing bodily harm.
