Courts Order Police Reinstatement in Honduras and Mexico

In Honduras, former member of the Police National's Intervention and Purge Commission César Bonilla said that the reinstatement of depurated officers will depend on rulings by the judiciary, with each case examined individually. In Mexico, federal judges have granted amparos that favor the reinstatement of at least seven municipal police officers previously suspended by the C3. The municipal syndicate ordered their reinstatement, but final judicial orders are still required to direct the public security secretary and the chief officer to restore the agents to duty and pay back wages. The process has sparked debate over the syndicate’s authority to lift preventive suspensions without involving the Honor and Justice Commission, amid complaints of police misconduct toward tourists.
