Covenant Industries to build missile factory near Leipzig in 2027

US defense company Covenant Industries plans to establish a manufacturing facility near Leipzig, Germany, starting in 2027. The site is intended to produce up to 1,000 Anthem medium-range cruise missiles annually to address capacity gaps in European defense strategies.

The Anthem missile features a range exceeding 1,500 kilometers, significantly longer than the 500-kilometer range of the Taurus system currently used by the German military. The company aims to offer a cost-effective alternative to existing systems; while a Tomahawk missile costs approximately 2 million US dollars, the Anthem is expected to cost several hundred thousand dollars per unit.

Covenant Industries recently completed a successful live-fire test of the Anthem system at the AMTEC test site in Morocco on August 6, 2026. Although the company is American-owned, it intends to source the majority of its manufacturing components from Germany and other European nations. Investors in the company include Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund.
