Covenant recruits for cruise missile production plant in Leipzig

US defense startup Covenant has begun advertising job openings for a production facility in Leipzig, Germany, aimed at manufacturing Anthem cruise missiles. The job listings include roles such as Managing Director, Head of Production, Production Manager, and various technical and IT positions focused on the mechanical assembly of components and finished systems.

Covenant, which was founded in 2024, confirmed its settlement in Leipzig in early September. The company plans to begin producing 1,000 units annually starting in 2027. This follows the recent opening of a similar assembly plant in Dallas, Texas, which is expected to employ 300 people.

The move has sparked political debate in Leipzig. Local political factions, including Die Linke and BSW, have expressed opposition. Critics argue that the specialized nature of the roles may result in highly skilled workers being brought in from other regions rather than creating local employment. Die Linke has introduced a motion to prevent municipal land from being sold for arms production, seeking to maintain Leipzig as a ‘city of peace’.
