Covenant to mass-produce Anthem cruise missiles in Germany and US
Defense startup Covenant has emerged from stealth mode, announcing plans to mass-produce its Anthem cruise missile. The company has raised over $250 million in venture capital from investors including Andreessen Horowitz and Founders Fund.
Covenant is establishing a significant production presence in Saxony, Germany, near Leipzig, with operations slated to begin in the first quarter of 2027. This facility aims to supply European markets, with an initial production target of 1,000 units in the first year, scaling up to 5,000 units annually. The company also operates a 105,000-square-foot facility in Dallas, Texas, and maintains technical and manufacturing operations in northern Israel.
The Anthem missile is a long-range, heavy-payload system designed for precision deep-strike capabilities. It is engineered to carry a 200-kilogram warhead and is reported to have a range exceeding 1,500 kilometers. A key strategic goal is to provide a cost-effective alternative to existing systems like the Tomahawk; Covenant aims to price the Anthem in the mid-six-figure range, significantly lower than the multi-million dollar costs of comparable weaponry.
Since its first flight in August 2025, the Anthem system has undergone more than 200 tests. Covenant has already secured approximately $150 million in contracts, including agreements with the US Department of Defense for testing and qualification.
