Coventry City beat Plymouth 4-2 to advance in Carabao Cup

Coventry City advanced to the third round of the Carabao Cup following a 4-2 victory over Plymouth Argyle at Home Park. The match featured standout performances from new signings Taiwo Awoniyi and Caleb Yirenkyi.

Awoniyi, making his first full start for the club after joining from Nottingham Forest, scored in the third minute and provided an assist for Jack Rudoni to give Coventry an early 2-0 lead. Although Plymouth fought back to equalize at 2-2 through goals from Oliver Irow and Xavier Amaechi, Coventry regained control with goals from Ephron Mason-Clark and a Victor Torp penalty.

Coventry manager Frank Lampard praised both players, specifically noting Yirenkyi’s creativity in setting up the opening goal. Yirenkyi, a Ghanaian international, was credited for his technical ability and vision during his 70-minute appearance.
