Covestro, Fertiglobe, and MB Energy partner on German ammonia supply chain

Covestro, Fertiglobe, and MB Energy have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore the development of an ammonia value chain in Germany and Europe. The collaboration aims to diversify supply options and strengthen European industrial resilience by establishing an additional route for ammonia imports.

Under the agreement, Fertiglobe will explore the potential supply of ammonia through an import terminal proposed by MB Energy at Blumensand in Hamburg. Fertiglobe is also considering a potential equity investment in this terminal. Covestro, a major industrial consumer, will evaluate the use of delivered ammonia as feedstock for production or to meet hydrogen supply requirements.

This initiative is part of a broader strategic push by the United Arab Emirates into the German economy. ADNOC has announced various partnerships with German energy and technology firms, including RWE, Siemens, and Bosch, representing potential investments of approximately 5 billion euros. These agreements cover sectors such as power infrastructure, clean energy, artificial intelligence, and low-carbon supply chains.
