COVID-19 cases rise across 47 U.S. states

COVID-19 activity is rising across much of the United States, with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reporting upward trends in 47 states. Only three states currently report stable levels. High viral activity has been specifically noted in Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada, Texas, and Utah.

To address the current landscape, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has updated vaccines for the 2026-27 season to specifically target the XFG variant. Health officials note that while overall respiratory activity remains low, the increase is expected due to the end of summer and the start of the school year.

In New York, the Department of Health is monitoring the situation through laboratory testing, emergency room visits, hospitalizations, and wastewater surveillance. Authorities are urging high-risk groups—including seniors, pregnant individuals, and those with chronic conditions like diabetes, asthma, or heart disease—to stay updated with vaccinations, practice good hand hygiene, and improve ventilation in indoor spaces.
