COVID-19 Rehabilitation Boosts Cognitive Recovery and Stroke Outcomes

A multicenter, single‑blind randomized trial involving 78 patients with long COVID showed that a 10‑week telehealth cognitive rehabilitation program significantly improved goal attainment and performance on cognitive tests. Benefits persisted at six months compared with usual care.

A separate retrospective study of 40,282 stroke patients across 138 U.S. inpatient rehabilitation facilities found that those who were COVID‑19 positive (3.7% of the cohort) had higher comorbidity rates, lower admission and discharge mobility scores, longer stays, and were less likely to return to the community than COVID‑negative stroke patients. Hispanic patients and those with higher mobility scores were more likely to be discharged home.
