Covilhã applies to be Portuguese Capital of Culture in 2028

The Municipality of Covilhã has officially launched its candidacy to become the Portuguese Capital of Culture in 2028. The initiative aims to utilize cultural diversity as a primary driver for territorial development, impacting sectors such as the economy, tourism, education, and science.

The application process has emphasized community involvement, gathering over 500 contributions to date. This includes 362 valid responses from an online survey and participation from more than 100 individuals in focus groups representing various sectors, including schools, the University of Beira Interior, local businesses, and social institutions. The municipality intends to use this process to map existing resources and identify opportunities to ensure a cultural program with national and international relevance.
