Covilhã implements digital citizen card and receives accessibility award

The municipality of Covilhã has introduced a digital Citizen Card (Cartão do Munícipe) via the gov.pt platform. This digital tool allows residents to access personal information, such as addresses and tax identification numbers, and is intended to serve as a gateway to various municipal services and benefits in the future.

Mayor Hélio Fazendeiro described the initiative as a step toward administrative modernization and digital transformation. While currently digital, the municipality is considering the future possibility of a physical version that could integrate existing social card functions.

In a separate technological achievement, the Museu da Covilhã mobile application has been awarded the Gold Seal for Usability and Accessibility. This marks a historic milestone as it is among the first mobile applications in Portugal to receive this state distinction, which was previously reserved for institutional websites. The app, developed with support from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), aims to provide an inclusive cultural experience for all users.
