Covirán expands supermarket presence in Valencian Community
The cooperative Covirán has expanded its presence in the Valencian Community, reaching a total of 74 supermarkets, including affiliated stores. This represents a 20.7% increase in stores under its brand. The cooperative currently operates 30 partner supermarkets in the region, employing 320 people, which is a 4.2% increase in staff compared to the previous year.
Covirán’s growth is supported by its 2020 alliance with the Coarvalha cooperative, which facilitated connections with local agricultural networks. In 2025, the cooperative established agreements with 177 local suppliers, totaling 41.4 million euros in purchases of products and services, a 9.28% increase from the prior year. Notably, purchases of fruits and vegetables from Valencian producers rose by 12.6%.
José Antonio Benito, president of Covirán, stated that the agreements with Coarvalha have strengthened a proximity business model adapted to smaller municipalities and neighborhoods, allowing partners to access large-scale organizational advantages while maintaining local market adaptability.
