Cowboy Bebop film returns to Japanese cinemas in 4K
The animated film ‘Cowboy Bebop: Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door’ will return to Japanese cinemas in a 4K remastered version starting October 30, 2026. The theatrical release commemorates the 25th anniversary of the film, which originally debuted in Japan on September 1, 2001.
The restoration was conducted under the direct supervision of director Shinichiro Watanabe to ensure the creative integrity of the original animation, digital effects, and detailed backgrounds. The announcement included new commemorative visuals designed by character designer Toshihiro Kawamoto and art director Atsushi Morikawa.
Screenings will take place in various Japanese cities, including Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Fukuoka, Aichi, and Hiroshima. Special gifts for theatergoers are planned, with further details to be released in the coming weeks. While the 4K theatrical tour is confirmed, there has been no official announcement regarding Ultra HD Blu-ray releases or streaming availability.
