Cowes Week 200th Regatta features RS21 class debut and bustling Island Sailing Club races
The RS21 International Class made its first appearance at the 200th Cowes Week Regatta, fielding 11 teams that raced alongside more than 600 boats across 30 classes in the Solent. Managing Director Alex Newton‑Southon of RS Sailing said it was an honour for the class to be part of the historic event, and Olympic gold‑medallist Lijia Xu praised the unique experience, competing with an all‑female crew from Team Magenta Project. International teams also took part, with the award for the longest journey going to team Rainbow Chaser.
Day 7 of the regatta highlighted the Island Sailing Club’s Sonar fleet, which performed under “champagne sailing” conditions. Club volunteers and staff were credited for keeping the boats race‑ready, while the clubhouse terraces hosted events by Serious Cool Events Ltd and Hawksbill Rum, drawing members, guests and visiting sailors to enjoy the atmosphere and views of the Solent.
