Cowes Week celebrates 200‑year milestone with free gin tastings and champagne opening party

Cowes Week 2026 marks its bicentenary, celebrating 200 years of the historic sailing regatta. The Cowes Harbour Commission, together with official gin partner Mermaid Gin, offered the first 200 Mermaid Gin & Tonics free of charge at The Sugar Store in Shepards Marina on Monday 3 August. The free‑entry event featured live music, waterfront views and welcomed visitors, sailors and locals.

On 1 August, the Island Sailing Club hosted a Taittinger Champagne opening party, bringing together members, competitors and guests. Attendees enjoyed flowing champagne, spectacular views across the Solent and a festive atmosphere that set the tone for the week’s racing activities.
