Cowichan Special Olympics athletes win 12 medals at Canada Summer Games
Five athletes from Special Olympics – Cowichan Valley earned a total of 12 medals while representing Team B.C. at the Canada Summer Games in Medicine Hat, Alberta, held from August 11 to 15.
The medal haul included four gold, five silver, and three bronze medals. Individual achievements included gold medals for Savannah Carlow in the Div. 1 1500m event, Jason Smith in the Div. 7 25m backstroke and the 4x25m Div. 3 freestyle relay, Mark Skelton in the 4x25m Div. 3 freestyle, and Louis Butler in Div. 8 singles bowling.
Other medalists included Jason Smith (bronze in 100m Div. 9 freestyle), Mark Skelton (two silver medals), Savannah Carlow (two silver and one bronze), and Krista Grzybowski (bronze in Div. 1 bocce singles).
